I started my career at Nostalgic Homes in 2001 as a brand new licensee. A California transplant, I grew up in San Diego, and lived in San Francisco and Seattle before landing in Denver. After spending many years in the military, and even more in retail and manufacturing middle-management, I decided to find something to do that I loved. Real estate seemed like the perfect fit. Luthiery, or guitar building, is a past profession and current passionate hobby of mine, as well as vintage car restoration, and so art and function had long been a driving force in my life. Passion for vintage homes and neighborhoods came naturally. I bought my first vintage home through Nostalgic Homes before becoming a Broker – a Craftsman Bungalow in Harkness Heights (Highland/Berkeley). With its wide front porch, 12” thick masonry construction, high ceilings, exquisite Tiger Oak mantel, trim, built-in bookshelves and hutch – I was hooked! It made me a true lover of vintage homes, and my life since has never been the same.
I met my wife, Jenny Apel, at the company. Just two months after getting married in 2006, we were offered the opportunity to purchase Nostalgic Homes from it’s founder. Well, so much for the honeymoon, but everything happens for a reason, and it was too great an opportunity to pass up. We took the reins in August of 2006, rode through the hardest times that real estate probably has ever encountered, and emerged on the other side stronger than ever. After all that, we’re still together, Jenny and I, so it must be love!
As long as human populations grow, there will always have a need for new housing, but I firmly believe that whenever possible, the “greenest” thing you could ever do for this earth is to save something that already exists. My career, as well as my many hobbies, express that fact poignantly. I am an analytical person, and can share with you stats, facts, sales figures, and probably even a little history about the neighborhood you are looking in, but can equally relate to you real life lessons about renovating and maintaining your vintage home, and even share where you can pick up that replacement glass door handle, vintage sink, or art deco lighting piece. I renovated my own 1900 American Four-Square, known as the Elitch Mansion, from a derelict with virtually no operating systems. I also restore vintage cars, as well as restore and carve my own guitars. I would enjoying nothing more than putting my big finned ’56 Cadillac to work, and spend an afternoon showing property.

“I sold my first home located in another state and moved to Denver a couple of years ago. After renting a house in the Wash Park area during that time, I had time to explore and experience other Denver area neighborhoods.
