Holiday Activities in the Denver Highlands Neighborhood

Holiday Activities in the Denver Highlands Neighborhood

While any afternoon spent in the Denver Highlands neighborhood can be exceptional, holidays are a real treat not only for those who own Highlands Denver real estate, but for those visiting family and friends who live in the area as well. As one of Denver’s most exciting communities – and one that has recently been featured in both Travel + Leisure Magazine and National Geographic Traveler – when your holiday guests arrive this season, rest assured knowing our team at Nostalgic Homes has put together a list of some of the hottest holiday attractions in and around The Highlands. Overflowing with hip restaurants, local bars, unique merchants and wonderful holiday attractions, this was an easy task

Kicking off the holiday season is the 1st Annual Denver Santa Speedo Dash. Raising money for the Life is Better Rescue, a local organization dedicated to saving as many animals as possible and preparing them for a life well lived, the Santa Speedo Dash will be held on Saturday, December 1st and starts at 12:30pm. The event is a one-mile run for all abilities and dashers are encouraged to wear their favorite Speedo with creative holiday flair. A pre-dash Mrs. Claus shooter and a finish line cold beer at Mead Street is the reward for these 21 & over participants. Spectators should gather near the Mead Street Station.

Denver’s Lower Highlands neighborhood

Once you’ve awakened your inner holiday spirit with the Denver Santa Speedo Dash, head on over to Denver’s Lower Highlands neighborhood for A Taste of the Highlands. Also on Saturday, December 1st, join other Highlands residents and visitors from around the area in exploring an intriguing mix of restaurants, markets and gourmet shops. Perhaps you’ll get to taste the best Panini in town, discover Denver’s newest brewery or fall in love with the area’s coolest ice cream parlor – there’s something for everyone.

The Parade of Lights is another Denver tradition that continues to attract thousands of people to the neighboring downtown area. Located in close proximity to The Highlands, the parade follows a two-mile route with the Downtown Denver skyline providing a beautiful backdrop for the lights and sounds of the parade. This year’s event will take place on November 30th at 8pm and December 1st and 6pm. Tickets can be purchased on the Downtown Denver Partnership website.

For those holiday guests that enjoy the creative scene, head on down to the galleries in the Tennyson Street Cultural District. This wonderful neighborhood is packed with a variety of art galleries, creative retail shops, and unparalleled boutiques that offer a wide selection of artwork and gifts – just in time for the holidays. You won’t find any chain stores or mass manufactured merchandise here. The community prides itself on its “buy local” attitude and welcoming atmosphere.

Other shopping opportunities on Black Friday or for last minute Christmas gifts can be found in Highlands Square. Located at 32nd and Lowell, Highlands Square offers a number of quaint boutiques and shops offering everything from books and gifts to fine lingerie and contemporary fashions. With an undeniably small-town feel, Highlands Square is the ideal place to do a bit of shopping and enjoy a cup of coffee with friends. Interestingly, the shops at Highlands Square are situated among some of the area’s most charming bungalow-style houses.

When the day winds down and no one feels like cooking, grab some cocktails and dinner in the Lower Highlands. LoHi to locals, there are a number of wonderful bars and bistros including Duo, with an eclectic American menu; Vita, a lovely rooftop Mediterranean-inspired eatery; and Lola, featuring amazing coastal Mexican cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a holiday meal or simply want to grab lunch with an out-of-town guest, LoHi is the ideal location to cap off your night and to experience Highlands holiday living at its best.

Our team at Nostalgic Homes wishes you and your loved ones a very happy holiday season and encourages you to enjoy the many wonderful programs and activities available to you throughout The Highlands neighborhood and the Denver Metro area.
